The Jackson City Council voted Tuesday night to accept a $1.6-million grant to staff more firefighters, but they had certain amounts of conditions.
The city now has one week to negotiate the details of the grant with the firefighters union.
The grant would allow the city to hire nine new firefighters for two years.
The city accepted a similar grant in 2012, but once all the money ran out, all the firefighters who had been hired were let go.
