City leaders in Jackson will hold a special meeting to fill a vacant city council seat Monday night.

This is the fifth ward seat. The seat was vacated in June by Andrew Frounfelker who resigned after being charged with assaulting his girlfriend.

He's set to go on trial for next month. Frounfelker was first elected to the city council in 2005. He had been on council longer than any other active council members before his resignation. The fifth ward encompasses downtown Jackson and surrounding areas.

The city started accepting applications to fill the seat last month.

FOX 47 talked with Jackson Mayor Derek Dobies who tells us he and members of the city council will hold a special meeting Monday at 6 PM at Jackson City Hall.

That's when he and council members will determine who will fill Frounfelker's vacated seat.
