JACKSON, Mich. — Jackson will honor Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by renaming a street after him.
City council unanimously passed the measure Thursday night during a special meeting.
FOX 47's Cryss Walker was there.
Under the plan 35 streets signs are set to be replaced, which will cost the city roughly $4,500.
The decision was met with very little opposition from some residents who didn't find the change necessary.
Mayor Derek Dobies said during the meeting that diversity is a strength and called the decision a positive change for the city.
The new Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. will run from Cooper to South Streets.
