IONIA COUNTY, Mich. — The Ionia Co. Health Dept. has issued a no body contact advisory for the Grand River.

A water sample revealed high levels of E. coli.

A sample was taken on June 3, 2019 by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) as part of an 8-week study in two locations of the river.

The results showed a geometric mean of 1257 E. coli/100 mL at the Saranac location and 1181 E. coli/100 mL at the Portland location, according to a press release from the Ionia County Health Department.

Additional testing is planned but for now, the health department says to not go in the river.

Questions regarding the details of the sampling should be directed to EGLE at 517-342-4419 .
