LANSING, Mich. — A plentiful garden in a unique place--Fox 47 visited the garden at the Ingham County jail.

The garden is tended to by inmates.

Earlier this week, around 44 pounds of produce from zucchini and tomatoes, to cucumbers and melons, were donated to the Mason Food Bank.

Inmates who take part in the gardening say they love having a program like this.

"As soon as you hit the doors to come down here, everybody's face brightens up. You get to relieve a lot of stress. Anything that is going on upstairs, you get to come down here and everything just goes right away," Shelbi Taylor, an inmate said.

So far this year, more than 800 pounds of food has been donated to area food bank and there's still more to harvest so that number will continue to grow.
