An inmate from the Ingham County jail was on the run Monday morning as he tried to escape custody.
The prisoner was on his way from the jail to the courtroom when he snuck away from the transport.
Michael Mountain, 24, of Lansing, was in jail on armed robbery. He was being transferred to the 54A District Court lockup holding facility.
The van had stopped at the Lansing Police Department and was parked in the basement when he made his escape.
With assistance from Capital Security and a patrol car, the inmate was spotted and apprehended within five miles of City Hall.
He was taken into custody on a roof of a business in the 100 block of South Washington.
There were no injuries, however, the inmate was transported to the hospital for medical reasons.
Ingham County Sheriff, Scott Wriggelsworth said, "I would like to commend the actions of the Lansing Police Department and the Michigan Department of Corrections in apprehending this fugitive so quickly. We will be seeking escape charges soon on Inmate Mountain, and more information about this incident will be forthcoming."
The Ingham County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate this matter to determine how this happened and what if any steps can be taken to prevent it in the future.
