MASON, Mich. (WSYM) - Ingham County's Treasurer has turned in a report addressing some accounting questions about the use of federal grant money.
The issue is that the Community Development Block Grant is not part of the county's budget. Therefore, the board of commissioners had no idea how the treasurer's office was spending the money.
The report includes copies of checks used for things like home rehabilitation programs and environmental testing. It also details other county departments that have their own checkbooks like the district and circuit courts, the fair and the sheriff's office.
Treasurer Eric Schertzing suggests some of them could be eliminated to streamline the accounting process.
We'll let you know if any changes are made.
