A Police K9 that assisted Ingham County police agencies for five years, passed away Thursday, says Sheriff Gene L Wriggelsworth.

NICKO was 6 years old, and his duties consisted of explosive detection and patrol work. NICKO’s partner was Deputy Chad Doyle. Both were members of the Ingham Regional Special Response Team.

Throughout his career, NICKO assisted not only the police agencies in Ingham County, but also the FBI, DEA, U.S. Marshals and Homeland Security with Fugitive Apprehensions and Explosive Detection Sweeps. He also helped the Secret Service with a presidential detail.

In a statement from Wriggelsworth, it states NICKO will not only be mourned by his family and co-workers, but also the many area children that he conducted demonstrations for.
