MASON, Mich. — The Ingham County Health Department has lifted the "no contact" order for the Sycamore Creek, Rayner Creek, Grand River and Red Cedar River in the Mason area. The order was put in place Friday after wastewater was intentionally released into the Rayner Drain to prevent sewage backups in low-lying parts of Mason.
The health department takes samples from 21 sites in the Sycamore Creek watershed every Monday. A statement from the department says test results from June 24 found E. coli levels at or below levels from samples taken before the wastewater release.
The department says the wastewater dissipated in the current. The Rayner Drain flows into the Sycamore Creek. Parts of the Grand River and Red Cedar River are downstream from the creek.
