It took almost a week, but Ingham County's computer system is back online after a computer virus was discovered last Friday. Tonight the county controller says operations are at "near normal conditions."
He says their closing in on finding the source of the malware that infected the county's system. He did say it looks like the typical malware you get from clicking on a bad email or bad web link. The IT staff got it under control before it did any serious damage but says it could have been a lot worse.
The staff has been working around the clock to scrub the system. In fact, this is the first time since last Friday that nobody had to work through the night.
The county has limited employee access to certain websites to prevent another infection. That shouldn't effect people who need services from a county department.
The county controller tells us the IT staff is working on new policies and procedures and will be bringing some suggestions to the county board of commissioners. We'll let you know when that happens.
