Cooler weather is here, and before we know it snow will be on the ground. Before that happens the Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter wants to be sure dogs in Ingham County have shelter.

It is asking for donations of dog houses or money to buy dog houses for pet owners in need.

The shelter's director tells FOX 47 News there are reports every year about dogs being left out in the cold. While animal experts advise dog owners to keep their dogs inside during the winter months, if that is not an option, dogs must be in a dog house that is water-proof and insulated.

Animal Control advises putting straw in the house instead of blankets because straw dries faster and provides more warmth.

If you would like to donate a dog house, take it to the shelter in Mason. The address is: 600 Curtis Street, Mason, MI 48854.

Monetary donations can be dropped off or mailed. All donations are tax deductible. People who need a dog house should call the shelter (517) 676-8370.
