LANSING, Mich. — Ingham County Animal Control & Shelter is committed to helping pet owners provide necessary care and supplies for their pets at home. With so many residents still being effected by reduced or lost wages, ICACS has stepped in to provide additional assistance.

Pet food and necessities can be picked up daily at the Mason animal shelter, and at the Lansing ICACS Outreach Center (826 W. Saginaw, Lansing 48915). Food bins are our front and are available for pet owners to take supplies as needed, and a restocked regularly. ICACS volunteers are also hosting a weekly pet food bank at the Meridian Township Central Park Pavilion on Wednesdays from 10am-12pm. Social distancing protocols are required. These pet food banks are generously supported by the Ingham County Animal Shelter Fund, local retailers like Preuss Pets, Joey’s Pet Outfitters, Pet Supplies Plus, Meijer, and other private donors.

ICACS has also re-started its pet vaccination clinics. The July clinic last week (7/15) provided vaccines to a record 273 dogs. With the support of the Petco Foundation, free rabies shots were given to dog owners, and dog licenses were available for purchase on site. Another clinic is being planned for July, with dates to be released soon. Previously published vaccination clinic schedules will be changed due to public health procedures.

“These public programs are really important to staff and volunteers,” says Outreach Manager Kate Turner. “If we can prevent someone from feeling like they need to surrender or rehome a loved family pet, and that pet never makes it in to the shelter, it makes these programs invaluable.”
