This past Monday, Ingham County Sheriff Scott Wriggelsworth led a county-wide Distracted Driving initiative.
Here are some of the stats from the distracted driving enforcement that took place on November 6.
Officers made:
88 Traffic Stops
36 Texting Citations
4 Careless Citations
7 Due Care & Caution Citations
29 Verbal Warnings
4 Moving Citations
10 Non-Moving Citations
2 Seatbelt Citations
1 Appearance Citation
1 Physical Arrest
The Sheriff's department reports that last year on the first Monday of November, the department responded to 47 accidents in total, and this year, on the day of the Distracted Driving Initiative,they responded to 38. That's a one day, 19% decrease.
Wriggelsworth says, "I can’t stress enough the sheer volume of distracted drivers"
