Hurricane Harvey delays Michigan boy's cancer treatment

Posted

Flooding from Hurricane Harvey has shut down the City of Houston, including the hospitals.

The closure is affecting a family in northern Michigan.

Hunter Bowman, a 12-year-old from Ludington, was set to go there for cancer treatment, but now things are up in the air.

The 12-year-old was diagnosed with thyroid cancer when he was 9 years old, something that is rare in kids his age.

"It makes it hard to breathe so I can't participate in everything I want to like running," Hunter said. "But I still run, I exercise, I just have to do it at smaller rates, I just have to do it at smaller rates than when I was little."

Hunter and his family had his appointment scheduled for more than six months. It was supposed to be Thursday at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
