It's wedding season, and the USDA would like to help you out with how long is safe for saving the top of the wedding cake.
The USDA says that wedding cakes saved in the freezer will be good for 4-6 months, and in the fridge, about 3-5 days.
Maybe it's better to save chocolate from your wedding and eat it a year later...chocolate can stay unopened for 1-2 years.
Here are some other items that you should be aware of:
Shrimp is safe in your freezer for 6-18 months and in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
All pastries can last 5-10 days in the fridge and up to 14 months in the freezer.
For meat, filet mignon can last in the freezer for 4-12 months and in the fridge for 3-5 days.
Chicken, fish and lamb follow the same safety rules for the fridge, but fish should be 1-2 months in the freezer, chicken should be 4-6 months in the freezer, and lamb 4-12 months.
