Members of Congress laid out a plan Wednesday to stop the abuse of addictive painkilling drugs.
House Speaker Paul Ryan announced a bi-partisan effort to address the growing problem. He says Republicans and Democrats in both the House and Senate are working with President Obama to come up with a national response to opioid addiction.
House Speaker Ryan said, "The Senate has passed a very good bipartisan bill. The President has put forward some of his own good ideas. So we can get this done and we win this battle. And that is why we here in the House are bringing our ideas to the table too."
Ryan also called the epidemic "personal." He says it's not about politics, but about combating the deadly abuse affecting families and communities across the United States.
