The Lansing Fire Department is investigating a fire that badly damaged a house early Monday morning.

The call came in at 2:15 a.m. for a house on fire in the 800 block of North Walnut Street. A neighbor heard noises, looked out his window, saw the fire and called 9-1-1.

When Lansing Fire arrived they saw a "heavy fire" engulfing a 2-story house, flames on the first and second floor, and the windows being blown out by the heat. Captain Steve Mazurek told News 10 that the fire "got hot really fast, and just took off."

They were able to put out the fire within an hour, and continued to work on the fire for 2-3 hours to make sure all hot spots were out.

The house was vacant and boarded up and without any power.

It sustained very heavy damage but luckily, no injuries were reported.

One neighboring home did receive some siding damage from the fire.

Mazurek says that the cause of the fire is still undetermined and is under investigation.
