A man in Mid-Michigan who is wanted on involuntary manslaughter charges in North Carolina will be heading back to the state.
26-year-old Tyler Prudden was tracked down and arrested in Portland on July 19th.
Prudden waived his extradition hearing in Eaton County Court on Thursday allowing for North Carolina Police to pick him up.
"Investigators from the Onslow County Sheriffs Department in North Carolina contacted the Michigan State Police because they wanted to make us aware that they were looking for an individual that had a felony warrant out for involuntary manslaughter," said Lieutenant Joseph Thomas of the Michigan State Police Lansing post.
The involuntary manslaughter case dates back to 2013 in Richlands, North Carolina.
Prudden's roommate at the time, 22-year-old Lance Corporal Lanija Gilpatrick, died following a gunshot wound to the eye which was believed to be accidental.
After police received a tip, the investigation was re-opened which revealed Prudden had allegedly shot his roommate.
Michigan State Police and the First District Fugitive team made the arrest at Parkers Landing Apartments, where Prudden lived.
"When they found a safe opportunity to make an apprehension, they called in our emergency support team which is our SWAT team for the Michigan State Police and they were able to make contact with the individual," said Thomas.
Prudden had been working in Lansing for a security agency providing services to numerous State of Michigan facilities.
At the time of the arrest, Prudden was armed but peacefully arrested.
"You always use precautions in this situation knowing that he possibly was armed," said Thomas.
Police say it's a good idea to get to know the neighbors around you.
"If you should know that your neighbor is involved in a complaint such as manslaughter or homicide you might want to tip the law enforcement agency off that you have that individual living next door," said Thomas.
There is no time table as to when Prudden will return to North Carolina.
In the meantime, Prudden remains in the Eaton County Jail with no bond.
