A program that gives homeless veterans a place to live and recover got a major boost on Friday.
Dozens of volunteers from the Home Depot and the Mikey 23 Foundation fixed up a veterans' home in Lansing.
The facility, run by the National Network Organization for Veterans provides a year of safe housing and counseling services to homeless vets.
Volunteers say it's important to take care of the people who serve our country.
"We forget about the homeless veterans and the veterans, period. You know, they serve their country overseas, and then they come back and we neglect them. So this is a way of us giving back and helping them as a community," said Michael McKissick, founder of Mikey 23 Foundation.
When the renovation is finished, seven veterans will move into the home.
The Home Depot Foundation donated $19,000 for the project.
