Judge Thomas Wilson has sided with Jackson Together and the city attorney that petitions collected against the NDO were not valid, effectively ending the case and putting the ordinance into effect.
--------------------------------------
The city of Jackson is due in court for a hearing on it's non-discrimination ordinance.
At today's hearing a judge will decide whether or not the petition that blocked the ordinance should be thrown out. The ordinance bans discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in terms of employment and public housing.
The Jackson city Council passed the ordinance in February, but a group of petitioners blocked it from taking effect. Last week, a group called Jackson Together filed a lawsuit saying those petitions are not legitimate.
If the judge sides with the Jackson Together group, the ordinance will go into effect. If not, the NDO goes to a public vote. The hearing was scheduled for 10 a.m.
We'll let you know what happens.
