ROMULUS, Mich. — The Wayne County Health Department says a child on board a flight to Michigan over the weekend does not have measles.

The news comes after Detroit Metro Airport reported Saturday a child suspected of having the virus was found on an incoming flight from Las Vegas.

The child and family were taken to the hospital to be checked out.

“Based on the assessment of the physician at the hospital, the Wayne County Health Department believes this is not a case of measles. It was determined testing was not needed.” said Dr. Ruta Sharangpani, of the Wayne County Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness.

There are now more than 700 confirmed measles cases in the U.S. in 2019.

At least 40 cases of the measles have been confirmed in Michigan.
