LANSING, Mich. — 9:03 UPDATE:

We're answering some of the questions that our neighbors asked about election night and the results of the polls.

QUESTION: Who pays for the roads?

ANSWER: It's us, the taxpayers, who pays for the roads. As for who decides which roads are fixed, that depends on city leadership. Current Lansing Mayor Andy Schor says he wants to fix the main roads if funding allows. As for Jackson, those projects are decided by the city manager.

QUESTION: Can the mayor or city council impact what the Lansing school district does?

ANSWER: Though they share a location in the capitol city, the mayor nor city council impact the decisions of the Lansing school district. The district's school board decides what happens for the schools.

QUESTION: What is the difference between what the city manager does and what the mayor does?

ANSWER: It depends on if the city has a 'weak' or 'strong' mayor system. In Jackson, the mayor is the leader of the city, is elected by the people and runs city council. While the city manager handles the day-to-day operations of the city and they are appointed by the council. Two different roles, both serving our neighbors.
