The Grand Ledge Christmas parade made its way through town Friday evening despite a disagreement about a float.
A group called Deven's Voice wanted a float in the holiday parade honoring Deven Guilford. He's the Grand Ledge student who was killed by an Eaton County Sheriff's sergeant in February during a traffic stop. The sergeant was not fired or prosecuted, sparking outrage from Guilford family supporters.
The Grand Ledge Chamber of Commerce turned down the group's request for a float, saying the parade wasn't the right place for the issue.
So instead of marching through town, Deven's Voice put their float in a parking lot at the end of the parade route.
Deven's aunt, Marcy Guilford, told us it may have been better that way, because they collected donations for Homeless Angels.
