The Grass Lake Township Planning Commission is being sued for approving a permit for a gravel pit on Norvell Road. FOx 47 News first told you about the proposal in October when opponents tried to convince the Planning Commission to reject the request for a special use permit.

The Commission approved the permit from L&L Development on October 12. It allows for the company to set up a mining operation for 5 years. It would also turn a field into a small lake and build a subdivision around it.

A group called Friends of Grass Lake Township filed the lawsuit in Jackson County Circuit Court. It claims the Planning Commission did not consider potential consequences including the effects on property values, local business, roads, the water supply and quality of life in the area. It also accuses the Planning Commission of violating the law by failing to follow Commission bylaws, the Township Zoning Ordinance and the Township Master Plan.

FOX 47 News has reached out to the Township Supervisor, Clerk, Deputy Clerk, Zoning Administrator and all 4 trustees for comment. This story will be updated if they reply.
