A non-profit group is making a big push to end gerrymandering in Michigan.

"Voters not Politicians" announced Thursday they have 300,000 signatures for their amendment petition that calls for a citizen-based redistricting system. The group says the current system of letting politicians draw up districts is unfair and the process should be up to the voters.

President of "Voters not Politicians" Kathy Fahuy said, "For redistricting in particular, these are decisions on lines being drawn that will affect elections for the next 10 years at a time, so we want to start creating a fair system."

The group plans on gathering more petition signatures at polling places during the November election.

They need to collect just over 315,000 verified signatures by the middle of February to get the amendment on the 2018 ballot.
