Grief counseling at Grand Ledge High School today after death of student

Grief counselors will be at Grand Ledge High School this morning beginning at 10 a.m. to help students cope with the loss of a classmate.

Everson Guild died Monday after working out in the weight room at the high school.

Grand Ledge Superintendent Dr. Brian Metcalf says Guild lost consciousness in the weight room during a routine football workout. He was given CPR and first aid by coaches at the scene and first responders from Grand Ledge Emergency, Police, and Fire Departments He was transported to Sparrow where he was treated by a medical team but died at 9:45  a.m.

Everson was scheduled to begin 9th grade in the fall. Metcalf called him an exceptional young man. WILX has learned Everson was on a science show on WKAR called "Curious Crew". WKAR also issued a statement Monday night: "Our hearts are broken here at WKAR to learn today of the passing of Everson Guild, student, athlete and science explorer in our community. We came to know and cherish him as a cast member of the TV show, Curious Crew. We will miss his humor and enthusiasm. To family and friends of Everson, we send our condolences. For all, we'd like to share a scene with Everson, as he investigates our world with the Curious Crew."

Grief counseling will be available in the media center until 4 p.m. today. A press conference is also scheduled for this morning at 10:30. The superintendent and varsity football coach will be there. Check back for updates.
