The heavy, wet snow is certainly tough to move, but a new app based in Grand Rapids hopes to help take care of that for some people.

Think of it as Uber for snow removal.

Quikplow matches people who need their driveway plowed or shoveled, with those who can take care of it.

“If you are looking to get your driveway plowed or shoveled, we are trying to match them with people who are looking to put in a little extra work to find additional income," Quikplow Co-Founder Ryan Crawley said.

Through the app, people can sign up to be a service provider if they are over 18 and pass a background check.

For those who want snow removal, just add a phone number and address and users will be alerted when there's a driver in their area.

“Could be someone who may be older that just doesn’t really want to go outside, it could be someone who doesn’t have a contract with a plow company and they might do it for the most part themselves and they may just want a break a bit. We created it for that type of situation,” Crawley explained.

The cost of a job depends on the size of the driveway and the amount of snow.

On average, a driveway that can fit four cars, will cost around $50.

“We had 5000 people download the app, approximately 400 were service providers, and we completed about 52 jobs today,” Crawley added.

“We had a guy on the east side today, accept seven jobs and he netted $336 dollars,” he added.

Right now Quikplow is gaining steam in Grand Rapids and on the east side of the state, but the founders are hoping that people start using it wherever there is snow.

You can download Quikplow on both the App Store and Google Play.
