National Eating Disorder Awareness Week runs from February 24 to March 1 and a local group is hosting an event in Grand Rapids.
The group, National Eating Disorder Association, hopes this will get people having conversations about food, exercise and body image issues.
30 million Americans will struggle with an eating disorder in their lifetime but because of a stereotype they don't talk about it.
The group is holding an event on the blue bridge in Grand Rapids Monday from 6-8 p.m. Tickets are available for a $10 donation.
Usually they would light the bridge up in blue and green colors but can't this year due to a malfunction.
They also are working on an educational film that they hope will be used in high schools called 'The Student Body' , which talks about childhood obesity.
There will also be a reception after at the J.W. Marriott. The goal is to raise $2,000 to fund this movie for every high school student in Kent County to see.
