Cornerstone University President Joseph Stowell will step down in May 2021, the university announced Friday.

Stowell has served as president since 2008 and will switch to the role of president emeritus.

The university’s Board of Trustees has appointed a transition committee to create a process for appointing a new president.

“We are actively preparing for the next season of growth and the advancement of our mission,” said Carole Boss, chairman of Cornerstone University’s Board of Trustees. “We will continue to provide a rigorous Christ-centered academic learning environment where students flourish in their pursuit of fruitful lifelong outcomes.”

Cornerstone restructured its academic leadership and added several new academic programs during Stowell’s tenure, including undergraduate programs in nursing, engineering and innovation, as well as graduate degrees in leadership and social justice.
