A Grand Ledge teenager charged with sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl can be released from custody, a judge ruled on Monday.

According to the Lansing State Journal, 14-year-old Brody McPhail, the son of Eaton County Sheriff candidate Fred McPhail, was ordered to stand trial in adult court.

The judge told McPhail he should take classes through a detention facility's treatment program and set a 6 p.m. curfew for the team.

Authorities say McPhail videotaped another boy having sex with a 12-year-old girl and sent the footage to other minors.

His first hearing in circuit court is set for mid-November.
