GRAND LEDGE, Mich. — It has been a nightmare for Michael Eaton; the heavy rains earlier this week caused a pipe in his bathroom to burst.

A Grand Ledge man is looking for answers after his house flooded this week and his landlord is no where to be found. After what has seemed like forever, he says he's running out of options.

"We had about 150 gallons of water pouring onto our floor, our kitchen, and bedroom. Ruined my bed, ruined everything," he said.

Every day since the pipe burst on June 18th, Eaton has called his landlord, begging for help.

"He told me it was going to be three days before he could come out and do something. I've called him 16 times, and he won't return my calls, won't answer,

So, Eaton called Stanley Steemer, and they told him his carpet was too damaged, and that he'd need an entirely new carpet.

Running out of options, he turned to his renters insurance.

"Personal damage, they'll cover, he said. "But floors, and anything like that, it's up to the landlord. Well, my landlord won't even call me."

Even when Eaton has threatened to call a lawyer, the only contact has been with maintenance.

"He literally drove a jeep up from the street, through the front yard, dropped the Shop-Vac off, and drove away."

Eaton says other than court, he really only has one option left.

"I’ve never made a complaint in four and a half years. Never once. I don't want to move, but I’m to the point I might have to. I don't know if I’m going to get my deposit back, I don't know what's going to happen. Hopefully nobody has to deal with this kind of stuff."

News 10 did reach out to the landlord for a comment, but no one answered our calls.

Michael reached out to us after, saying the landlord would offer to take $200 off his rent, but that he'd have to remove his own carpet.
