LANSING, Mich. — Governor Gretchen Whitmer today appointed Sara Spencer-Noggle to the 21st Circuit Court of Isabella County.
“Sara is a well-respected and esteemed attorney. Throughout her career, Sara has been advocating for justice as an indigent criminal defense attorney,” said Whitmer. “She will be a great addition to the bench.”
Sara Spencer-Noggle, of Mount Pleasant, is the Isabella County public defender. Prior to serving as the county’s first public defender, she spent most of her career as an indigent criminal defense attorney inher private practice, trying cases before probate, district, and circuit courts. She has also served as a prehearing attorney for the Michigan Court of Appeals and assistant prosecutor for Isabella County. Sarahelped reform Isabella County’s public defense system through her work as the chair of the Isabella County Board of Commissioners ad hoc committee on the Michigan Indigent Defense Commission.
Ms. Spencer-Noggle attended Central Michigan University where she earned both a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Political Science. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from the Michigan State University College of Law.
This appointment was made to fill a partial term, which expires at noon on January 1, 2021, after Judge Paul Chamberlain stepped down effective July 31, 2019. Ms. Spencer-Noggle would be required to run for reelection in November 2020 in order to serve the remainder of Judge Chamberlain’s unexpired term ending at twelve o’clock noon on January 1, 2023.
This appointment is not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
