LANSING, Mich. — Governor Gretchen Whitmer spoke Wednesday at the Michigan Township Association Capitol Conference about her upcoming budget proposal.

She addressed a room full of lawmakers and focused on a recurring theme from her State of the State address about fixing Michigan's roads and the state's poor education rates.

She stated only 44% of Michigan's workforce completed some form of secondary education.

She vowed to increase those numbers and boost education to compete with other states.

And although she addressed a variety of different topics, Whitmer was sure to focus on the idea of Michigan reinvesting in itself now that she has become governor.

"Thirty years of leadership that has failed to make sure we are able to make the primary investments in our state that keep us safe on the roads, that secure our edge of mobility, and make this a place others will invest because we've failed to invest in ourselves," she said.

Whitmer was sure to discuss her directives about banning gender and sexual orientation discrimination as well as her efforts to clean Michigan waters.

Whitmer will propose her budget next Tuesday, March 5.
