Gov. Rick Snyder on Wednesday welcomed Gov.-elect Gretchen Whitmer into the State Capitol and gave her a tour of the Governor's office.

Whitmer, 47, is a Democrat who will succeed Gov. Rick Snyder.

She previously served in both the state House and Senate, and as Ingham County prosecutor.

She will be inaugurated as governor during the swearing-in ceremony on January 1, 2019 in Lansing.

Snyder has served as Michigan's governor since his election in 2010.

They sat down and discussed the transition of power on Wednesday.

Snyder said, “I still have a full dog year left to get things done, but we have been working on a transition plan for a year and now it’s time to put that into action, as well.”

He added, “It’s important that we have a smooth, strong transition so that Governor-Elect Whitmer can put her foot on the gas on day one and help maintain Michigan’s momentum.”
