A 15 year-old Jackson student is recovering after she was hit by a car while walking to school.

It happened at around 6:45 am near the intersection of North West and Wildwood Avenues. The girl was knocked to the ground and taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police say she was not crossing at a designated cross walk when she was hit. Elmer Hitt, Jackson City Police, said, "The crosswalks are in place to give pedestrians a safe travel across the street, and that time in the morning, in the darkness and the weather conditions, can make it difficult to see someone."

Police believe the driver who hit the girl did have the right of way.

Jackson Schools Superintendent Jeff Beal says the district is thankful the accident wasn't worse.
