Gas prices expected to soar this summer

Gas prices expected to soar this summer

Just in time for people to start heading up north on weekends, gas prices have crept up near $3.00 a gallon. Experts say we shouldn't be surprised if they keep rising through the summer.

Rolando Alwaque said, "It cost me 90 bucks last week for 25 gallons." It's more than Alwaque says he's used to paying to fill up his SUV. But he's not alone, high gas prices have a lot of people taking at second look at their credit card bill. Realtor Sandi Ferguson says she has to be on the road to do her job. "I put in probably 3,400 miles or better." Drivers like Sandi are going to see more money coming out of their budget for gas.

World oil prices are climbing, gas taxes are up, and drivers are about to pay for a more expensive summer blend of gas. The combination adds up to a painful summer at the gas pump. One driver said, "I looked at the price and thought, I've got to watch where I go now, I've got to watch where I travel."

Low cost stations like Costco may see longer lines while nearby stations charging 20 and 50 cents more a gallon may be forced to lower their prices. Either way, drivers will once again be looking for cheaper ways to travel, whether driving more fuel efficient cars, or simply re-adjusting their travel plans. Said one driver, "I'll continue doing what I do, I'll just re-think how I do it."

Experts say drivers in some cities will be paying more than $4.00 a gallon this summer. Gasbuddy.com says the best day to fill up is Monday, when the average price is lowest. Fridays are the highest.
