Charles Lewis, Jr. was in the Ingham County Jail when his mother was laid to rest Monday afternoon.
Lewis was arrested Friday for escaping from his group home near Detroit where he was serving a delayed sentence for the 2010 murder of Shayla Johnson in Lansing.
Sources close to the family told us Lewis was distraught over his mother's terminal illness and left his group home to be with her. But his decision to walk away, may put him behind prison walls for years.
Lewis is expected back in court for sentencing on November 1. He is currently jailed without bond.
