The Dresner Foundation is giving $1 million to help provide summer jobs for Detroit teenagers over the next two years.
About 1,000 teens -- ages 14-15 -- are expected to benefit from the grant that was awarded to the Detroit Employment Solutions Corp. as part of the Grow Detroit's Young Talent program.
The foundation is based in West Bloomfield and focuses on improving lives through grants that support health research, youth and family programs, and animal welfare.
Mayor Mike Duggan has challenged businesses and foundations to take part in the six-week program. The city hopes to provide 8,000 jobs for residents between 14 and 24 years of age.
About 8,100 jobs were created last summer and 5,600 in 2015.
