LANSING, Mich. — There's an alarming shortage of homes for foster children in Michigan, a new report shows.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services said it needs to find homes for more than 13,000 children who are currently in foster care.

However, the state said there are only 6,000 homes currently ready to take on children.

May is "Foster Care Awareness Month," and the state hopes to have people step up and provide a safe, stable, and loving home.
