LANSING, Mich. — A former state representative has pleaded "no contest" in a sex scandal.

Todd Courser and fellow State Representative Cindy Gamrat got caught trying to cover up their affair in 2015.

She was expelled from the house.

Courser resigned before he could be thrown out.

On Wednesday, he cut a deal with the attorney general's office to plead no contest to "willful neglect of duty by a public officer."

He could get up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine. He will be sentenced in Lapeer County on Sept. 16.
