WASHINGTON, D.C. (WSYM) - The former president of Michigan State University has accepted an invitation to testify before a U.S. Senate subcommittee.
Lou Anna Simon has agreed to speak at the U.S. Senate's Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, Insurance, and Data Security hearing. The subcommittee has jurisdiction over the safety of youth sports including Olympics and in colleges.
Tom Brandt, a spokesman for the subcommittee chair, tells FOX News the hearing was originally scheduled for May 22.
The hearing was postponed due to former USA Gymnastics President Steve Penny, former national team coordinator Marta Karolyi, and former senior vice president Rhonda Faehn not accepting the invitation to testify on that date.
Faehn was recently forced out from USA Gymnastics Friday.
The hearing will be rescheduled for sometime in June.
Brandt tells FOX 47 News if either former USAG employee decline to speak on the date to be determined, a subpoena will likely be issued.
The hearing in June will be the second held. Olympians Jordyn Wieber and Jamie Dantzcher testified during the first hearing in April.
Lawmakers have introduced bills that aim to address the Nassar scandal.
