LANSING, Mich. — A former Michigan State medical resident was sentenced to prison Wednesday for sexual assault.

Michael Phinn, of Fowlerville, was sentenced in Ingham County’s 30th Circuit Court to 5 to 15 years in prison, Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Scott Hughes said.

Phinn had previously pled guilty to second degree criminal sexual conduct and assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct.

He also pled guilty to using a computer to commit a crime and unauthorized access to computers.

There were three victims present at Phinn’s sentencing held in Circuit Court Judge Clinton Canady III’s courtroom, Hughes said.

Phinn was a Michigan State University medical resident who authorities say sexually assaulted two women at university health center and forced them to watch videos of him masturbating.

Phinn originally faced more than two dozen charges, including first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Phinn worked in the MSU Neurology Clinic and police say the women weren't his patients.

He was charged in October, about a week after the women reported the allegations to police.
