A former middle school principal is heading to jail after admitting she stole money from the school she was in charge of.
Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Susan Beebe sentenced Kelly Gilliam-Pennington to 330 days in jail and five years probation Wednesday. 30 days to be served immediately.
She pleaded guilty last month to a felony count of embezzlement of $20,000 dollars or more.
Gilliam-Pennington admitted to writing over $50,000 in fraudulent checks between 2013 and 2015 during her time as principal for Parkside Middle School. The money came from the school's Principal Fund.
The remainder of her sentence will be suspended while she is on probation for the next five years.
