A former principal at the Middle School at Parkside in Jackson goes before a judge accused of stealing money from the school.
Kelly Gilliam-Pennington was charged Tuesday with one felony count of embezzlement of 20,000 dollars or more, but less than 50,000.
Gilliam-Pennington resigned suddenly last September. At the time she said it was for personal reasons. Police were contacted after an audit of Parkside's finances. According to MLIVE, Gilliam-Pennington was under investigation for months before she was charged.
If convicted, she faces up to ten years in prison and/or a steep fine. She is expected back in court Friday morning. Gilliam-Pennington was hired in September of 2013. The district tapped Jeremy Patterson to replace her.
