The man who negotiated a half-billion dollar settlement with survivors of Larry Nassar will become Michigan State University's top in-house lawyer.

On Monday, Robert Young was named MSU Vice President and General Counsel. Young has been serving as special counsel to the university in it's Nassar investigations and lawsuits.

He replaces Kristine Zayko, who announced her retirement from MSU and return to private practice earlier this month.

Young is the former Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court. His appointment is effective June 1.
