LANSING, Mich. — Lansing’s former mayor, known for his outspokenness, still has plenty to talk about.
Former Mayor Virg Bernero will launch “The Virg Bernero Show” next week in podcast form through a Farmington Hills-based startup company called NRM Streamcast.
Bernero’s first show will air live from noon to 1 p.m. Oct. 17 at nrmstreamcast.com.
It will also be available on the NRM Streamcast mobile app and the website thevirgshow.com.
Subsequent shows will air each Thursday at noon and can be downloaded online and with the app.
Bernero is expected to host most of the shows in Farmington Hills.
“We think Virg is going to play really well nationally,” said Tom Athans, NRM Streamcast’s chief programming officer. “So we’re positioning his show as a national show.”
NRM Streamcast currently has 30 programs and could eventually add more hours to Bernero’s show, Athans said.
Athans said Bernero has free reign to do whatever he wants.
The show will probably have a political focus, but branch off at times to other topics, Athans said.
“We have a lot of confidence in his talent and his ability,” said Athans, who declined to reveal Bernero’s compensation. “We think it’s really going to do well.”
Bernero was the Michigan Democratic Party’s 2010 nominee for governor and served as Lansing’s mayor for 12 years.
He currently serves as the Capital Area Manufacturing Council’s executive director.
Bernero began his political career as an Ingham County Commissioner, then as a state representative and state senator.
