A press release, and a separation agreement from the mayor's office mean Janene McIntyre is out.
"We were surprised," Lansing city council member Carol Wood said Monday.
She says she had no notice, and she's frustrated that the city is paying $160,000 for someone's resignation.
"We're responsible to taxpayer dollars," Wood said.
The separation agreement obtained by FOX 47 News shows McIntyre gets $127,000 as a separation payment, and $33,000 for accrued vacation and sick time.
It also says the city will pay for her health coverage till the end of this year, that they won't disparage one another and that she can't sue the city afterward.
Some of the money in the agreement is also going to McIntyre's lawyer.
"If it's a mutual agreement, I'm not sure why we're paying a law firm," Wood said.
She thinks all of the terms should have been approved by the council.
"I believe that the mayor should have also sat down, or someone from his staff, should have sat down to discuss this matter with us."
City council member Judi Brown Clarke agreed, saying she's disappointed that the council wasn't notified about the city attorney's departure.
"I have more questions than answers," Clarke said Monday, specifically about why McIntyre left in the first place.
The mayor couldn't be reached for comment on this story, but the separation agreement released Monday shows they both signed it during McIntyre's brief leave of absence.
