After six years of planning and construction the newly renovated Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum reopened to the public Tuesday morning.

It's been closed for the last eight months as crews finished more than 13-million dollars in renovation work.

Visitors will notice a lot of new technology targeted at some of the younger visitors; something president Ford's son, Steve Ford says his father would be proud to see.

"He wanted to see kids learning, get educated, learn about this great country and democracy is something that's supposed to be struggled, talked about and discussed done in a civil way. And he would want these young people to learn how to do that, principled leadership. So to look back here and see this done, finished, the vision, operating would make both dad and mom very happy."

Several other members of the Ford family as well as people who served with the former president were also in attendance, including former Vice President Dick Cheney who served as Ford's chief of staff.
