The flu virus kills a six year old boy in Oakland County. Ashton Arabo's death is the first pediatric death from the flu this year. The mother of the Oakland County boy says he died January 25th. She wrote on a GoFund Me page, that she never expected something like the flu to change their lives.
The family set up the GoFundMe page to raise money for a foundation created in Ashton's honor.
State Health Experts say the boy's death from the flu virus is a reminder to parents to get their kids vaccinated. The State Department of Health And Human Services says the flu is a vaccine-preventable disease and adds this year's vaccine is a good match to the Influenza virus currently circulating.
Health experts say the flu shot can prevent the virus, or if you do get sick, reduce the severity of the symptoms.
