Flooding prompts evacuations near the Grand River in Portland

Parts of Portland have been ordered to evacuate their homes after water from the Grand River has been coming up to several homes.

Ionia County Emergency Management indicated that water is coming up to several homes on Water Street along the Grand River. Residents on Water Street were ordered to evacuate.

The city of Portland says the Grand River began to flood over the banks towards homes due to an ice jam.

At this time, approximately 50 residents have been evacuated.

Emergency officials are working to supply temporary shelters for those in need.

The city of Portland says officials are continuing to actively monitor the situation.
